Why the Republic of Georgia?

I can probably count on one hand the number of people I have met over the last year, who actually know where the Republic of Georgia is located. And to be honest, before I began this process I was one of the many who didn’t even remember that Georgia was a country, let alone where it was located. So, as many of you have asked, why Georgia?

Well, if you read the About Me section of this blog, you know that I felt God calling me into missions at 11 years of age. One of the first questions everyone always asked was, “Where do you feel called to?” Even though I knew without the shadow of doubt I was called, I could never answer that question. I didn’t know. It wasn’t that I was afraid of the answer, or that I didn’t want to share it. I honestly didn’t know. God never revealed that part of his calling for me. And that bothered me.

I knew that I wanted to use my experience as a Children’s Pastor. I knew that I wanted to go somewhere around Eastern Europe or the Middle East. So, once I decided it was time to begin this wonderful journey, I prayed about it, then began looking at the opportunities listed online. There was something like 17 pages filled with needs, but there was only one listing in all of those needs that was focused on children. The workers in the Republic of Georgia were looking for someone to help them get Children’s Ministry established across the country. It was right up my alley!

Then I noticed that the need had been posted 4 years prior. My first thought was that certainly in four years someone had responded to the need. Maybe they had just forgotten to take the post down. But I figured I might as well reach out to them and see what they say. So I shot off an email and waited.

A little over two weeks went by, and finally I received a response. Not only did they still need someone, they had not had any interest in the four years the need had been online! For 4 years they had prayed for God to send the right person. I knew immediately this was exactly where God was calling me. He may not have given me the location when he first called me to this work, but he definitely had a plan.

Born and raised in a Christian home, I felt God calling me to work overseas with children when I was only 11 years old. I graduated from Evangel University in Springfield, MO, and fully intended on serving two to three years in my hometown of Phoenix, then head overseas. But God had other plans. Two years into it, both of my parents began having health problems that continued for over 8 years. Twelve years after my graduation, my parents' health was restored and my student debt was finally paid off. Now, with 14 years of ministry (12 dedicated to ministry to children) under my belt, I am now fulfilling that calling God wrote on my heart at the age of 11. In Telavi, the Republic of Georgia, I am truly living my dream. God is doing some great things here, and I am so thrilled to be apart of it.
